Currently + Book Haul!

First, I’ll start with what I’m currently reading! Yesterday I started Scythe by Neal Shusterman and I’m already in love with this book. I’m really not that far in right now, on page 64, but it’s really hooking me in. It’s my first Shusterman book to read and for sure not my last.

I’m torn on what book to start after this one, so many on my shelf calling to be read!

Now, on to the mini book haul, we all know this is the more fun part of this post, right? The other day I ordered three new books on Amazon:

I’m super excited to read these! I’ve had them in my cart for a while and finally decided to grab them. I heard some great things about A.S. King and her book Still Life with Tornado, I’m tempted to read that one next after Scythe… we will see!

The Rest of Us Just Live Here seems really interesting, the characters in this book just seems fun to read about. You can watch this video here about the book, it explains it better than I can lol!

Paper Girls came to my attention after I finished binge watching Stranger Things, I hear it has a Goonies and Stranger Things vibe, excited to read. Along with being a book nerd, I’m a massive comic book and graphic novel junkie!

Review // Gemini

Book Read: Gemini by Sonya Mukherjee

Cover Thoughts: Love, love, love the cover! It’s gorgeous! I wish it has a rough feel though, to mimic watercolor paper like the cover of When We Collided, but I adore it!

My Thoughts: I was really excited to read this book after I discovered it was about conjoined twins, something about conjoined twins fascinates me! I loved this book and fell in love with the twins in this book, especially Clara. It was well written and easy to follow along, it flowed really well. Loved this book! I read somewhere that the author will be doing another book called Taurus and I look forward to reading more from her!

Would I Recommend? Absolutely!

I give this book: ★★★★★ 5/5

Review // The Coldest Girl in Coldtown

Book Read: The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black

Cover Thoughts: The cover was nice but it didn’t really draw me in or anything, usually I’m drawn to the covers. I liked it though! I love the feel of the cover, it’s one of my favorite finishes that feels like a soft rubber… hard to explain haha!

My Thoughts: I’m so glad I finally read this book, I loved it! I forgot how much I love Holly Black’s writing, she is one of my favorite YA authors. The storyline was great, same with the characters. The plot kept twisting and turning, it kept me wanting to read! I also loved how the chapters changed from the current situation to background info. This book did not give off a Twilight vibe at all, at least for me. I know some tend to see that in all vampire books. I would love to see a sequel to this book for sure!

Would I Recommend? Yes! I would totally recommend this book! Loved this book and would read it again even.

I give this book: ★★★★★ 5/5

Weekend Haul

This weekend I picked up (and ordered) a few new books! Surprise, surprise, huh? We ventured out to a used bookstore and I picked up a book there, the other two were from Amazon. I’m a bit of an Amazon addict, I just can’t help ordering when their prices are so good on the books I have my eyes on!

The Fault in our Stars by John Green

I have yet to read this well loved book, so when I saw it at the used bookstore I decided to pick it up. Also, they had nothing else that interested me lol! Not sure when I’ll read it, but I’m glad I have a copy for when I want to now. It was really cheap and practically brand new too, it still made that “just opened” hardcover book sound when I opened it up.

Gemini by Sonya Mukherjee

The other day when I was at Barnes & Noble to pick up Scythe, I saw this book and really wanted to bring it home with me but I didn’t. I ended up ordering it instead the next day! It’s about conjoined twins and it really sparked my interest (I started it last night too). So far I’m really liking it, it’s just different and I find it a really fun read so far!

Mosquitoland by David Arnold

Another book that has been catching my attention, I had this book in my Amazon cart for ages but never ended up ordering with the others. I finally decided to order it and I’m looking forward to reading it! I think the author has a new book out called Kids of Appetite, I want to check that out as well!

Review // The Graces

Book Read: The Graces by Laure Eve

Cover Thoughts: Like most books I pick up, I loved the cover. Though, I love the Dutch cover even more but I really feel like the US cover matched the book a bit more, I’ll explain more below.

My Thoughts: I read this book after reading Wink Poppy Midnight and I will say that I enjoyed it more, but at the same time I still had that dull feeling like the other book (not all bad though)… it just fell a bit flat for the first 2/3 of the book. Without spoiling anything, the last 1/3 of the book really took off and had me doing the whole “one more chapter” and then I ended up staying up past midnight to finish it with my book light in bed, hoping not to wake my husband lol! I really liked the last part of the book and for that, I will totally read a sequel to this book to see if it picks up even more (I thought I heard a rumor that there is to be a second book, but can’t find the info again). This book did for sure have The Craft feel to it, loved that! It also had a Twilight feel to it as well, I couldn’t shake that at all but I also didn’t mind it since I loved the movie (never read the books, don’t shoot me)!

Notes on the cover I mentioned: Seeing the Dutch cover would have given me a sense that there was a lot of witchcraft going on and I would have expected the book to raise my expectations a lot! But with the US cover, I feel it toned it down much like the book actually read. That was why I mentioned the two covers, it’s funny how a book cover can lead you one direction while another variation can go the other way.

Would I Recommend? I think I would recommend it, I did enjoy it! I would just warn ahead that if you are expecting The Craft and lots of action, it’s slow to go but not boring!

I give this book: ★★★★☆ 4/5

Currently Reading // The Coldest Girl in Coldtown

I thought I was going to talk about one book but I ended up finishing it too quick. I had started reading The Graces by Laure Eve on Monday but ended up finishing it last night. I played a game of “one more chapter” until past midnight… and got only 4 hours of sleep, oop’s! I’ll be doing a review on the book this week though, in the meantime I’ll be chugging iced coffee today to keep me alert lol!

After much thought, I decided to start The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black, she is one of my favorite authors that I read a lot of when I was younger. My favorite YA book is Tithe by her, I adored that book! I was going to start Six of Crows but I really want to read the Grisha Trilogy first before I start that one. I have the first book to that trilogy but still need to pick up the other two.

After only 40 pages in, I’m loving this book so much!

The Week’s Book Haul

Maybe I should start doing book hauls only once per month in one big post… hmmm. This month has been full of book hauls, I couldn’t resist, so many good books out right now! This week I acquired a few new ones and I’m so excited about them!

The first haul was from Target, I picked up Crooked Kingdom and Three Dark Crowns. I’ve been waiting to start Six of Crows, but I wanted Crooked Kingdom on hand in case I wanted to dive right into the sequel. Now that I have both books, I kind of want to wait to read the Grisha Trilogy first… but I only have the first book to the Grisha Trilogy, so one day I’ll get to them all lol! I’m glad I have both these titles now though, Three Dark Crowns has been calling to me!

Yesterday, I ran back to Target (can you tell I live there?!) and picked up Carry On by Rainbow Rowell… I had to get Draino while I was there… so, naturally a book jumped into my cart too. I’ve been back and forth on wanting to read this book but I caved when I saw it in stock. I just enjoyed Fangirl so much that I want to read anything by Rainbow Rowell again.

I was eyeing the Lunar Chronicle’s at Target as well, but I really want to collect the set in hardcover and they only had them in paperback. I used to only like paperback books, now I have turned into a total hardcover snob. They just look so good on a shelf, I can’t help it haha!

Then today, I ran over to Barnes & Noble to pick up the new Neal Shusterman book, Scythe!! I have been waiting for this to come out, it looks so good! I have never read any dystopian fiction or anything by this author, so I’m curious how I will like this book. The storyline looks good, so I have high hopes for this book!
